Sányán is Yoruba for wild-silk aṣọ-òkẹ, the most prestigious traditional cloth in Yoruba weaving, praised in the phrase "sányán baba aṣọ": sanyan, father of cloths. It is the closest word in the language for what this texture actually is: silk, on the strand.

Best for

Anyone transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. Through the transition your lengths are still relaxed while your new growth comes in natural, and Sányán blends into that relaxed, straight portion, so you can add length and fullness without heat while your natural hair rests underneath. It works the same if you wear your hair relaxed or pressed full-time and want a seamless straight install, a flatter, sleeker foundation than Dídán's kinky-straight blowout finish.

How Sányán differs from Dídán

Sányán and Dídán are the only two non-coiled textures in the range, and they are built for different hair. Sányán is straight, full stop: no blowout texture, no curl memory, the drape of hair that is naturally sleek, and the truest match for relaxed or permed lengths. Dídán reads as freshly blown out or silk-pressed, with the slight body a real press leaves behind, and it tolerates a curling-iron or flat-iron refresh better than Sányán does. If your lengths are relaxed or simply straight, Sányán is the match. If you are recreating a fresh blowout on naturally coilier hair, Dídán is closer.

A note on quality

Unlike the relaxed hair it blends with, Sányán is raw straight hair, never relaxed and never chemically processed, so it holds up far better over time. You get the sleek, straight look you are matching in hair that has not been through a relaxer.

Length and weft count

Sányán lies flat and carries the least volume per weft of any texture in the range, so most installs run 3 wefts at shoulder length and 3 to 4 for longer looks, similar to Ìtura and more than the coiled textures need at the same length. Shrinkage is minimal; it wears close to its stated length. Pair with our HD closure or HD frontal at the same count.

Care

A sleek texture like Sányán shows wear fastest at the ends, so regular trims and a light silicone-free serum go further here than on our coiled textures. Satin protection at night keeps the drape smooth between washes.
